Why You Should Fall Hard for Home Inspections Before You Fall for a House

What is a Home Inspection? (and why you should fall for them)

A home inspection is a professional assessment of a home’s condition — from the roof to the foundation and everything in between. Think of it as a first full-body scan before a lifelong commitment.

The inspector walks through the house, pokes around the crawl space, checks the water heater’s birth certificate, and delivers a report that says, “Here’s what you’re actually getting into.”

Why I Love Them (and you should too.)

Home inspectors keep it real.

There are no rose-colored glasses and they won’t compliment your high waisted jeans. A home inspection will tell you if the house is hot, or just looks hot in photos.

They give you negotiating power! Found out the HVAC is older than the Titanic? Let’s talk concessions.

They help you prioritize projects. This is my favorite part, it helped me make a roadmap or backlog of projects for my house.

Cracked grout = cosmetic, not urgent

Structural issues = call an engineer, top of the to-do list

Spirit in the crawl space = call a priest

They help you actually get to know your house. When was the last time you bought something off Amazon without reading 30 reviews and watching an unboxing video? You wouldn’t buy a car without popping the hood, and this is the house version of that.

But Aren’t They Scary?

No! They’re clarifying.

Yes, the report will be long.

Yes, it might have more red flags than the pods on Love is Blind.

BUT that doesn’t mean you walk away – it means you proceed with the transaction with more information and walk into the house smarter.

TL;DR — Get the Inspection. Love the Inspection.

The home inspection isn’t there to ruin your dream. It’s there to help you decide if the dream just needs a little therapy and some new plumbing.
